March 12, 1943 – October 5, 2025
With grateful hearts for a life well lived, we celebrate the life of James B. Green, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and faithful servant of both his community and his Lord. Jim passed away peacefully leaving behind a legacy of honor, devotion, and unwavering faith in God.
Jim began his distinguished career in law enforcement in 1964 with the City of Birmingham, where he also proudly served as a motor scout for many years. His commitment to protecting others led him to continue his service with the City of Fultondale for two years, and later with the City of Gardendale, where he served faithfully until hanging up his badge and gun in 2003. For nearly 40 years, Jim upheld his oath to serve and protect with courage, humility, and steadfast dedication to justice.
Beyond his badge, Jim was a man defined by his love for his family and his faith in God. He was a member of First Baptist Church Mount Olive for 52 years, his faith never wavered. He lived by example of his faith showing his strength, kindness, and humbleness, always leading his family with prayerful hands and a loving heart.
He was preceded in death by his father James B. Green, Sr. and mother Mary Sue Smith, his daughter Susan McQueen and 4 brothers, Donald Green, Ronald Green, Larry Green, and Joe Green
He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Green, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and family. Together they built a home deeply rooted in faith and their love for each other.
Jim is survived by his children: James (Jim) Green (Linda) of Hayden, AL; Tim Green (Kristi) of Lillian, AL; and Mark Green (Jessica) of Mt. Olive, AL., a brother, Scott Green (Beverly) Trussville, AL. and a sister Patricia Hale (Charles) Gardendale, AL. He was a proud grandfather to Jeremy Green (Jaisa), Jessica Smitherman (Josh), Heather Wallace (Steven), Stephanie Alldritt (Michael), Douglas Green (Yuliya), Dylan Green (Jessica), Tyler Teets (Alex), Drew Green, Jennifer Smith, and Lauren Northington, and 21 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him great joy and pride.
Jim loved Alabama football, camping with family and friends, and racing — simple pleasures that reflected his love for life, adventure, and togetherness. His laughter, stories, and warm smile will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be at First Baptist Church Mount Olive on Thursday at October 9, 2025 from 6pm-8pm.
A celebration of Jim life and faith will be held at First Baptist Church Mount Olive on Friday, October 10, 2025 , at 11am with burial to follow at Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale.
Though we mourn his passing, we rejoice in knowing that Jim has heard the words he lived to hear one day: “His lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.” Matthew 25:21 NKJV
