James Lawton Harding went to his heavenly home on January 5, 2013 after battling a 20 year illness. He was a member of Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Johnnie W. Harding; his daughter, Donna Harding Marsh; sister, Marie Williams; and nephew, Joe Neal Sirratt.
Survivors include: Robert “Randy” Harding (Carol), Karen Harding Fromhold (Steve), and Ronnie Parnell (Linda); Grandchildren, Amy Marsh Sertell, Ashley Marsh Britt (Michael), Beth Harding Reeves (Jay), Whitney Harding Pilgreen (Kevin) and Nicholas Fromhold; Great grandchildren: Garrett and Brooklynn Sertell; Lynnley, Elsie and Evan Britt; and baby Pilgreen due in June; Brothers: Bobby Neal Harding (Doris) and Charles Harding (Peggy); Sisters: Irene Sirratt and Margaret Dellinger (Claude); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He proudly served in the 89thrd Infantry Division in the European Theater of Operations during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal.
Visitation will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on Sunday, January 6, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, with funeral services on Monday, January 7, 2013, beginning at 1:00 PM at the funeral home
