James Thomas “J.T.” Heron of Mt. Olive, AL was born February 5, 1927 in Pratt City, AL and passed away on Monday, December 3rd, 2018 at the age of 91. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who was very much loved and will be greatly missed. He served his country proudly and was a veteran of both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. Mr. Heron was a faithful member of Decatur Highway Church of Christ. He was a preacher of the Gospel and served as an Elder and Deacon, as well as a church camp director and Lads to Leaders where he mentored many children throughout his lifetime. He and his wife Jewel supported many missionary efforts around the world and Por Los Ninos Orphanage. Mr. Heron worked varied jobs supporting his family but was most proud of the business he built himself, Heron Tire Repair. His family is at peace now because he is with his beloved savior Jesus Christ and reunited with his beloved son, Tommy Dale Heron who passed away February 5, 1966. He is also preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Muriel Heron, and a sister, Moniree Hayes. Mr. Heron is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Jewel Dean Heron; his daughter, Becky Moore (Kenneth); sons, David Heron (Bethany), Bruce Heron, and Gregg Jennings; grandchildren, Deana Triplett, Lora Robbins, Ken Moore, Heather Kemp, Holly Ware, Davis Heron, Paige Heron, Reese Heron, and Gabe Jennings; great grandchildren, Emily Swanger, Jessica Robbins, Ashley Perian, Taylor Kemp, Mallory Kemp, Caroline Kemp, Levi Ware, and Liam Ware; sister, Barbara Howton; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Services will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 2 PM with a visitation beginning at 12:30 PM. Interment will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Dora, AL with U.S. Military Honors.
