James "Jamie" Alan Mayfield

July 18, 1965 - September 2, 2026

James Alan “Jamie” Mayfield, 61, of Warrior, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carolyn Suzette & John Barry Barnett, and Richard “Ricky” Mayfield; father-in-law, Sidney (Evelyn) Love; uncle, Erskine Milford “Sonny” Dodd; aunt, Yvonne (Jerry) Young; grandparents, Erskine & Clairene Dodd, Hastings & Ruby Mayfield; and stepsister, Terry Barnett.

Jamie was born on July 18, 1965, and spent most of his life in Gardendale, Alabama. In 1976, he moved with his family to a new home on Teresa Drive, where he met Amy Caroline Love, the girl next door. Jamie and Amy began dating in 1981 and later married in 1987. They shared 39 years of marriage and two daughters: Lindley Ryan Seagle (35) of Birmingham and Sydney Clairene Hallmark (26) of Cullman. Quiet and shy growing up, Jamie eventually became the “Big Jamie” everyone knew and loved: loud, charismatic, and always ready with a joke and a good punch line.

His gift of gab served him well during his many years as a salesman, but his true passion was buying and selling antiques, especially guitars. We’re pretty sure eBay wouldn’t be what it is today without James Mayfield.

Jamie loved animals, music, history, guitars, reading, learning, and telling a good story. Jamie never met a stranger, and he enjoyed making people laugh. A family gathering wasn’t complete without him. His personality filled the room, and his trips down memory lane had you hanging on for dear life and laughing the whole way.

He leaves behind his wife, Amy; two daughters, Lindley (Christopher) Seagle & Sydney (Ethan) Hallmark; three brothers, Robin (Tracey) Mayfield, Christopher “Chris” (Vicki) Ramey, Patrick (Jessica) Barnett, sister Jennifer “Jenny” (Scott) Holcombe, sisters-in-law, Renee (Jeff) Martin, Lisa (Mark) Waren, many nieces and nephews; and his favorite “Love” lady, Maw-Maw, Evelyn (Sidney) Love.

Big Jamie loved big and unconditionally. He will be missed deeply, but there’s plenty of him left in the people he loved. A Dr Pepper, a hearty laugh, and a good slap on the back will always bring him to mind.

We love you, Jamie. Rest easy with that big spirit in the sky.
