

James “Harold” Ratliff, Sr., a resident of Gardendale, was born in the town of Walter, in Cullman County on April 28, 1927 and he passed away peacefully on November 16, 2017 at the age of 90. Harold served our country in the US Army, 72nd Constabulary Unit, 3rd Army under Gen. Patton, 1945 – 1947 in Stuttgart, Germany as a military policeman. He worked with the Cullman Power Board from 1950 until 1953 and then worked with the Birmingham Transit Authority from 1953 until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of Gardendale First Baptist Church.
Harold was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Tressie “Evelyn” Ratliff; parents, James William and Effie Ratliff; daughters, Baby Jean and Janet K. Ratliff; siblings, Bertha Mullins, Pernie Lloyd, Edward Ratliff, Robert Ratliff, Evelyn Monteith, and Carl Ratliff.
Harold is survived by his son, James Ratliff, Jr. (Darlene); brother, Ray Ratliff (Carol), and a host of friends and family.
Services will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on Sunday, November 19, 2017 with a visitation to begin at 1:00pm; funeral service at 2:00pm followed by his burial in Hopewell Cemetery, Hanceville, AL.
