Jo Ann Pellegra Jones of Birmingham, Al passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 21, 2021. She had been fighting a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on May 3, 1948 she is predeceased by her mother, Marie Ciulla Pellegra and father, Sam Pellegra. Jo Ann is survived by her husband of 51 years, Paul D. Jones, her daughter, Jamie Jones and her sons, Corey Jones and Ryan Jones (Ryan Rane). She is also survived by her brothers Conrad Pellegra and his son Brian Pellegra (Angie and children Ethan and Zayne), brother Gerard Pellegra (Susan) and son Philip Pellegra (Ariana and daughter Halle).

Jo Ann was always very creative, loved the arts and always had a project in process. She enjoyed showing the beauty she perceived in the world through her love of painting with oils, water colors, pencil drawings, designing and building stain glass pieces or working the mud on her pottery wheel. She loved making her home beautiful by surrounding it with flower pots and gardens. In recent years she renewed her love for music and learned to play the violin, which was named “chocolate” because she made it sound so sweet. In early marriage, Jo Ann enjoyed riding her motorcycle and later, she enjoyed driving her red corvette thru the Tail of the Dragon.

Jo Ann was a woman of strong faith. She loved family traditions and on holidays she made sure that our children woke up to the smell of food in the oven. She prepared many Italian family recipes that we quickly devoured. She always made sure there was enough food for the family to take home leftovers. Jo Ann made every occasion special and took every opportunity to show her family that they are loved.

Jo Ann’s greatest gift to us was her unconditional love. She was a kind and compassionate soul with a beautiful and welcoming smile that would gently embrace anyone. She stayed busy doing for others as that gave her great joy.

Jo Ann was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be greatly remembered and missed.

Memorial visitation services will be held on Saturday, November 27th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Ridout’s in Gardendale, AL with graveside services following at Elmwood Cemetery.

Jo Ann was such a warm and caring person. In the 30+ years I've known her, she never said a cross word about anyone and remained positive no matter what. Her light was too bright to just fade away, and all of us who were blessed enough to know and love her will carry that light with us always.

Paul, Corey, Jamie, Ryan and Ryan,
We are so heartbroken to hear the sad news of our sweet cousin JoAnn's passing. She was an amazing woman, full of the spirit of God, loving, kind, talented. and selfless. We loved her so very much. She always had the sweetest smile when you saw her and she had such a gentleness about her.
I will always treasure her texts and calls when we spoke this past year.. Her faith and trust in God was tremendous, as she said, " I cannot do this without the grace of God".
We pray that God will comfort and give each of you peace in knowing she is with her loving God, no more pain or suffering. She is at peace.
We love you all.
On behalf of all the Ciulla family, if we can do anything for you, please do not hesitate to let us know
Love
Phyllis and Sam Schifanella
and the Ciulla family

Jo Ann was such a wonderful, thoughtful, talented, and gracious friend. She and Paul were a fun couple for Laurie, Russell and me to enjoy including during our dinner outings for over 40 years. She was loved by so many and will be dearly missed. She was a very talented artist and violinist. But, her greatest talent was just being a beautiful person. We are all heartbroken and send our love and prayers to Paul, Corey, Jamie, Ryan and Ryan.

My cousin was one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever known - inside and out. She always had a way of making everyone around her feel special, but she was the special one. I was around 5 years old when Jo Ann married Paul. She asked me to be the flower girl, but I was way too shy at that age. I remember how beautiful she was that day and how I always looked up to her. She remained just as beautiful throughout her life and she has always, and will always hold a special place in my heart. My deepest condolences and prayers go out to Paul, Corey, Jamie, Ryan and Ryan. Please know that the Robinson family is here for whatever you need during this painful time.
