

Joe was born to Wesley Joe Hicks and Sevilla Delora Allred, who preceded him in death along with his sister Ann Patrick and two brothers Woodie L. Hicks and Charlie Ray Hicks.
Joe was married to Jean Amerson Hicks who also preceded him in death (2024). She was "my sweetheart," best friend, and the love of his life. Together they raised two daughters, Renee Chism and Lori Hicks-Glazner (George). Their lives were full of love and were blessed abundantly with many grandchildren who also survive them: Robert S. Brantley Jr. (Jessica), Kalyn J Speck (Forrest Doles), BJ Brantley (Kourtney), and Spencer Joe Speck (Alishia Guthrie).
They also are survived by an abundance of great grandchildren; Coleson Brantley, Levi Speck, Warren Brantley, Sawyer Brantley, Kynleigh Brantley, Kade Brantley, Avalynn Brantley, Hudson Doles, Livia Brantley, Kylee Brantley and Kelsi Brantley.
Mr. Hicks is also survived by a sister Helen Carroll and brother James R. Hicks (Pattie), and a host of nieces and nephews, and extended family including a very special caregiver, Kristy Maravilla.
Joe along with his wife Jean had and enduring love for their family, and the love they leave us will never end.
Joe had a distinguished career serving his country and was a proud veteran. He supervised logistics for the southeast United States. His service spanned thirty-one years including Alabama National Guard 1956-1961, US Army Active 1959-1961, US Army Reserve (Sargeant Major) 1973-1996.

Visitation will be held at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, located at 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071, on November 10, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am with funeral service immediately following.
Joe Hicks will be laid to rest at Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale.
