John was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ludie Higdon. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Denise Guercio Higdon; his sisters, Brenda Stevens (Steve) and Donna McCrindle; his niece, Nikki Stacey; and nephews, Jayme Stapp, Jason Stapp, and Josh Stapp.
A retired employee of the Alabama State Highway Department, John was a devoted member of Beechwood Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. His church community was a significant part of his life, and he treasured the friendships he built there.
An avid gardener, John had a deep love for nature, especially blue flowers. He spent countless hours landscaping his yard, taking joy in watching the birds that visited. John was also a passionate supporter of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide, never missing an opportunity to cheer for his team.
A visitation for John will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071, followed by a funeral service at 2:30 PM. John will be laid to rest at Oakwood Memorial Gardens, 2100 Moncrief Road, Gardendale, AL 35071-2374.
