Johnnie Lou Hargreaves

Johnnie Lou Phillips Hargreaves, September 27, 1917 –November 18, 2017. Age 100, peacefully joined her heavenly family on November 18, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Harold Hargreaves; her parents, Lou Allison (Jenny) Freeman Phillips and Alfred Milton Phillips; and her brothers, Milton and Hugh Phillips ; She is survived by one son, Trevelyn (Mary) Hargreaves; two daughters, Janice (Larry) Houck and Judy (Keith) Waller; one sister-in-law, Clara Hargreaves; four grandsons, Michael (Michelle) Hargreaves, Gary (Sharon) Hargreaves, Ronald Kidd and John (Mallie) Thorson; four step-grandchildren, Alice Thorson, Bill Thorson, Laura Schurman, and Liz Pekol; many great grandchildren, great- great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A homemaker all of her life, Mrs. Hargreaves was greatly loved by those who knew her. She gave unconditional love and strength to her family, creating countless birthday cakes and dinners, while making sure that each person felt cherished. She looked for and found the good in everyone and inspired all who knew her with warmth, generosity and cheerfulness. Her family is grateful that she recorded many of her thoughts, memories and feelings through her gift of poetry. She will be carried forever in the hearts of those whose lives she touched. Mrs. Hargreaves was a longtime member of Gardendale Baptist Tabernacle Church.

Chapel services will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel at 2 PM with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale, AL. Rev Rick Nelson will officiate services.
