Johnnie Ruth McMilion died Saturday, November 26, 2022 at the age of 86, after residing in Gardendale, Alabama the last six years. She was involved in many activities around the city and loved meeting new people. She would often be seen with her walking stick exploring her community, keeping up with her neighbors, and collecting their recyclables. Several of her neighbors mentioned never seeing her without her walking stick. She loved that stick. Johnnie also loved traveling and was always thrilled to seek out new adventures, never entertaining the idea that she would be the eldest on the excursion. She was involved in her church, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, first visiting it more than 40 years ago. She always believed in improving oneself, as she was a strong advocate for any type of learning endeavor. She was truly proud to help and encourage others to take full advantage of all educational opportunities, supporting numerous groups and organizations regularly. Johnnie loved her family and always reminded people to put their family first. She was the oldest of five siblings. Johnnie is preceded in death by her first husband, Carroll Early, her son Brandon Early (Monica); her brother, Bill Cooner (Olga); and her sisters Mary Eaton (Buster) and Patsy Evans (EO). She is survived by her husband, Carl McMilion; her daughter, Bethany Porter (Denis); her youngest sister Peggy Denson (Mac); her two grandchildren, Robert and Amy Greene, as well as multiple nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
