

Johnny graduated from Corner High School where he was known for his athleticism in football, basketball, and track where he still holds the record for the 100 yard dash. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for 16 years, serving in Vietnam in the Artillery Division. After his military service he began his career with The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers 108 and retired after 20 years. Johnny was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Helen Moss, grandson Kenney Erwin Moss, and brother Harvey Wilson Moss, III.
Johnny is survived by his two sons, Geral Moss, Sr. and John Moss; two daughters, Karen Reneau (William) and Sherry Hartley (Mark); grandchildren, Robin Buckalew (Jason), Laura Southard (Joe), Jonathan Reneau (Ashton), Geral Moss, Jr. (Tara), Savannah Campbell Smith (Clay), and Alexander Campbell; great grandchildren, Whitley Southard, Ethan Buckalew, Lucas Southard, Khloe Buckalew, Dalton Southard, and Kaitlyn Dunaway; his sister, Gail Williams; and many other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 7th, 2023 at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A Celebration of Johnny's Life will be held on Saturday, July 8th, 2023 at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel at 11:00 am. Burial will immediately follow at Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
