Joseph Phillip Sample

Joseph "Phillip" Sample went home to be with his Savior on September 29, 2026. Born on November 23, 1950, in Birmingham, Alabama, Phillip grew up in Gardendale, Alabama. His life was defined by his deep love and devotion for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His unwavering faith guided him through every aspect of life in serving his family, his community, and his church.

Phillip proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1971 - 1976. He owned his own realty company and also built homes. After his first retirement, he drove a school bus for Jefferson County in Gardendale and Mt. Olive.

He was a devoted husband to Deborah during their 47 years of marriage and a devoted father to his son, Nicholas. Phillip loved playing baseball with his son, as well as golf.

Phillip is survived by his wife, Deborah Sample; son, Joseph "Nicholas" Sample; Grandson, Jacob Daniel Sample (Hannah), and great-granddaughter, Savannah Jean; brothers Robert David Sample (Gloria) and Michael Sample (JoAnn); and a sister, Paula Kaye Sample Eubanks (Ron). He was preceded in death by his father, Robert David Sample, and mother, Olean Sample.

The family is very grateful to the caregivers of ACG Hospice.
