Joy Calvert

Esther Joy Calvert, after a long battle with cancer, went home to be with the King of Kings on September 7, 2010. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Stratton Knight and father-in-law, Jasper Calvert. Blessed to share in her life are her husband of 24 years, Vann; dad and step mother, Brantley and Helen Hardin Knight; mother-in-law, Ella Calvert; brother, Philip (Shelly) Knight; sister, Beth (Mitch) Knight-Pinneo; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Joy was raised by her parents on the missionary field in Japan. She was a preschool teacher for many years, an active member of GFBC Choir, Cancer Conquerors, Ladies’ Bible Study and North Arts Council. Joy enjoyed reading and crafts. Her funeral service will be held at Gardendale First Baptist Church, South Campus, 940 Main Street at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 11, 2010 with burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cancer Conquerors at GFBC, American Cancer Society NJ Relay or the North Arts Council.
