Kenneth proudly signed up for the draft at age 15 and was drafted into the U.S. Navy at the age of 16 and proudly served until 1956. He loved to fix anything he could, especially lawnmowers. He was a jack of all trades and a master of none. During football season you could find him watching all the games and cheering the loudest for Alabama. Kenneth enjoyed drinking his coffee on his porch sharing stories with anyone who joined him.
He is preceded in death by his wife whom he loved dearly, Cathy Vanderver, his sister, Barbara Mitchell, and his brother, Curtis "Buddy" Vanderver. Kenneth is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley Bailey and Richard; his nephews and their wives, Richard "Ricky" Bailey and Cindy, and Rusty Mitchell and Marilyn; his niece Sandra Mitchell Mckleroy; numerous great nephews, nieces, and cousins; his honorary son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Amanda Simpson; and his honorary grandchildren, Riley, Clayton, and Amelia "Muffin" Simpson.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. A Celebration of Life Graveside will begin at 1:00 pm at McCormack Cemetery, 5203 Hollis Goodwin Road, Dora, Alabama 35062.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of your choice in memory of Kenneth.
