Lavon Nelson, a resident of Morris, Alabama, was born in Fayette, Alabama, on June 24, 1938 and he passed away peacefully on November 10, 2017 at the age of 79. Lavon graduated from Mortimer Jordan High School and he proudly served our country in the US Navy. He retired from CSX Railroad after a 30 year career. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening; basically he just loved the outdoors.
Lavon was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Susie Nelson.
Lavon is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Linda Nelson; sons, Charles Cox (Patricia) and Gary Nelson (Tamara); daughters, Tina Harris (Scott) and Sandy Cater (Neal); brother, Oties Nelson (Donna); sister, Mary Frances Parsons (James); grandchildren, Ryan Cater, Cody Cater, Christopher Cox (Jessica), Jordyn Turner (Jesse); and Ashton Stone; great grandchildren, Caroline Cox and Mallory Cox.

Services will be held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, with a visitation to begin at 1:00pm; funeral service at 2:00pm followed by his burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens. Services will be officiated by Rev. Frankie Harris.
