Mom, Granny, G-Granny passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020, peacefully at home, as she went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a member of Gardendale First Baptist Church where she taught children’s Sunday School for many years and sang in the church choir. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for her brothers’ auto parts shop. In her senior years, she was known and loved for her card ministry. She delighted in sharing the love of Jesus through birthday cards, sympathy cards, get well cards, and thinking of you cards; always sharing a scripture of hope and reassurance. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Hughes; a daughter, Peggy Jane Hughes; parents, Grover and Ludie Park Gafford; brothers, Robert C. Gafford, William J. Gafford, John G. Gafford, and Harry Gafford; sisters, Jimmie Mae Stone, Ethel Jackson, and Patsy Harden; and grandson, Daniel Naim Ajlouny.
She is survived by her children, Sandy Clark (Jim) of Cullman; Mary H. Sims of Indianapolis, Indiana; Patti Giambrone (Mike) of Chalkville; Terry Hughes (Karen) of Roswell, Georgia; Randy Hughes (Misty) of Pelham; Pamela Ajlouny (Basim) of Hoover; and Debra Hughes of Villa Rica, Georgia; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Larry Gafford (Connie); and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Ridouts Gardendale Chapel, Gardendale, Alabama; with Bro. Mark Harrison and Pastor Andy He is officiating. Family and friends are invited for public viewing from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. A private family graveside service will follow.
In light of COVID-19, masks and social distancing will be required and would be greatly appreciated.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Desperation Church, 510 – 5th Street, NW, Cullman, Alabama 35055 in her memory.
