Martha retired from Gardendale High School in 2001 where she was an assistant to the counselors and enjoyed interacting with students to make a difference in their lives. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Olive where she taught Sunday School for many years and was involved in many activities including singing in the choir, leading backyard bible clubs on mission trips and helping with vacation bible school. She was also a part time church secretary for a few years. She was very active in her children’s lives as they were growing up. She was a substitute teacher for many years and she loved spending time at the ballparks working the concession stands and being the loudest cheerleader in the stands. She loved family vacations to the Smokey Mountains and the beach. She also loved the many traveling adventures she and Tommy had to the exciting places they went such as Alaska, and “out west” to many of the National Parks. She loved tending to and nurturing her flowers just as she did her family. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and she loved her family dearly. She will be greatly missed.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Thomas H. Mann, Jr., her parents Odis A. and Sudie M. Belcher, her sister, Linda B. Hilley and her grandson, Matthew S. Kinard. Martha is survived by her three children Steven Mann (Cindy), David Mann and LeAnn Lucas (Jeff), seven grandchildren, Matthew Mann, Daniel Mann (Kaitlyn), Jenney McAnnally (Greg), Jessica Mann, Jacob Mann (Savannah), Noah Lucas (Kerriona) and Emma Lucas. Five great grandchildren Dylan McAnnally, Jackson McAnnally, Jaron Lucas, Kennedy Mann and Abigail Mann, one nephew, Evan Hilley, several cousins and many special friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Mt. Olive or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Services for Martha will be held Friday, September 3, 2021 at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with visitation beginning at 1 pm, immediately followed by her Celebration of Life service at 2 pm. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Olive Cemetery, 3201 Mt. Olive Road; Mt. Olive, Alabama 35117.
