MARY JEAN GRIFFIN (January 20,1950 – December 1, 2019)

Early on the morning of Sunday, December 1, 2019, our beloved wife and mother slipped free of the bonds of her earthly infirmities and entered the welcoming arms of our Lord’s embrace. Born and raised in Fultondale, Alabama, she was a member of the first graduating class of Gardendale High School. She had many occupations throughout the course of her life (in addition to the already considerable occupation of wife and mother) from telephone operator to department manager at a well-known retail chain before her retirement. Never content to be idle, she loved to crotchet and was a voracious reader as well as an unrepentant lover of animals. Loving, gentle and kind to all, she was living proof that “Diamonds and dynamite both come in small packages.”, always willing and ready to come to the defense of others. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas Clyde Estes and Nellie Mae Hicks. She is survived by her loving husband of forty-nine years, John N. Griffin, Jr., sister Janice Renea Estes, her two sons John William Griffin and Christopher George Griffin, her “adopted” son Edward Joseph Anthony Balash, her granddaughter Talicea Lynn Balash and numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews.

We met in 1988 and became associate and freinds. Three of us shared our January 20th birthday, with me being the oldest. I will always remember Jeans smile and laugh. Rest in Peace my sweet friend.
