Mary Yvonne (Hogan) Parsons, age 83, of Nesbit, MS, formerly of Pinson, AL, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 24, 2024, after a brief illness. She was known to many as a loving, kind and caring Mama, Mamaw and friend.
Mary was born in Coffee Springs, Alabama to her parents, “Buck” and Ruby Hogan. During her childhood, the Hogans moved to the Birmingham area where Mary met her future husband, “Dutch”. They raised three wonderful children and were married for 54 years. Mary enjoyed country and gospel music, reading mystery novels, sewing, crafts, camping and flea marketing. She had a great passion for animals, especially the family golden doodle, Sasha. She was “Mamaw’s girl”.
Mary cherished her family and friends, and she dearly loved the Lord. The last few years of her life, she spoke more openly about her faith and her strong desire to go to Heaven. She was very proud of her children for their accomplishments and the lives they had built. She loved friends like family and treated family like friends. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She was a “bragging grandma” to anyone who would listen. She never met a stranger and made friends easily.
Mary is preceded in death by her loving husband, Allious F. “Dutch” Parsons, her parents “Buck” and Ruby Hogan, her “big sister”, Betty H. Mixson, and her brothers, Ben, Gerald and Riley Hogan.
Mary is survived by her son, Randy (Carol) Parsons, daughter, Leslie (Jeff) Hill, son, John (Amanda) Parsons; grandchildren, Alex (Robin) Parsons, Brian (Ashley) Hill, Megan (Justin) Hanson; great-grandchildren Jackson and Owen Hill and her “baby sister”, Ann (David) Clough. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The service for Mary will be held at Gardendale Ridout’s Chapel on Thursday, June 27, 2024, beginning with visitation at 5:00 p.m. for family, 5:30 for friends and service at 6:30 p.m.
Mary had a special fondness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She lovingly gave donations regularly. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mary’s name to www.stjude.org/donate
