Michael Andrew Whitton Sr.

Michael (Mike) Andrew Whitton. Sr., of Birmingham, AL, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 66. Born in Florence, Alabama, on September 2, 1958, he moved to Albany, GA, in 1967, and to Gardendale, Al, in 1974 with his parents and brother.

Mike graduated from Gardendale High School in 1976 and then attended UAB. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, Alabama football, and music. Mike began playing the piano at age 4 after showing his older brother Rob how a song was supposed to be played. He could hear a piece one time and then play it perfectly. He studied piano at Birmingham Southern College, being one of the youngest students admitted to the music program. He became an accomplished pianist.

He began playing the piano for St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Gardendale and St. Henry Catholic Church in Warrior in 2024. He also played the piano at several nursing homes in the Gardendale area.

Mike retired from AT&T as a Database Management Specialist and Website Administrator. A longtime member of Fultondale First Baptist Church and the Gideons, he loved his Lord. He enjoyed reading the Bible, history books, working in his yard, and playing with his dog Chico.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert (Bob) Whitton, Loraine (Nana)Whitton, and his older brother, Robert (Rob) Whitton. Jr.

Michael Whitton is survived by his loving wife Robin M. Whitton (McSwain), his son Andrew Whitton, Jr. of Montana, family, and friends. A kind and caring man, he will be missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
