Nellie Mae Burchfield, 92, of Calera, Alabama, passed away on July 25, 2026. Born April 15, 1934, Nellie Mae lived with a spirited independence that never dimmed—carrying herself with grace, warmth, and a steady devotion to the people she loved.
Those who knew Nellie Mae will remember a woman whose kindness was not occasional but constant, offered freely and without condition. Her generosity showed itself in the everyday ways that matter most, and her care for others was matched by a bright, radiant presence that made time with her feel lighter. Even in life’s ordinary moments, her sense of humor found its way through—gentle, timely, and unmistakably hers.
Nellie Mae’s joy for living was evident in the things she loved. She enjoyed shopping and, every now and again, the fun of making a good bet at the casino. Always put together, she wore heels well into her 80’s and never left her house without her hair fixed—a signature touch of pride and style that friends and family came to admire. At home, she was also known as an amazing cook, sharing comfort and care through meals that brought people together.
Nellie Mae Burchfield is survived by her son, Jim Burchfield; grandson, Christopher Moore; granddaughter, Maddie Burchfield; and daughter in law, Monday Moore. She is predeceased by her husband, James Hershell Burchfield and her son, Michael Thomas Burchfield.
