Mrs. Nelma Belcher Gorman

Nelma Belcher “Granny” Gorman of Gardendale was born September 17, 1912 and passed away February 16, 2013 at the age of 100. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lillie and Frank Belcher and her siblings John Belcher and Zula Fields. She is also preceded in death by her husband Burtis E. Gorman, daughter Patsy Gorman, son Jimmy Gorman and grandchildren Shelia Gorman, Tina Gorman and Talmadge D. Glasscock. She is surived by her children Peggy Tumlin (Charles), Shirley Glasscock, Joyce Byars, and Larry Gorman (Linda). Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren Chuck Tumlin (Sandra), Sonja Martin (Larry), Michelle Byars, and Cindy Miller (Jeff) and 8 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Gorman was a lifetime member of Friendship Community Church. She was a stay at home mother who devoted her life to the care of her family. Her wit and smile will be remembered and missed.

Visitation will be held Monday, February 18, from 12:00 -1:00 pm at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel followed by a graveside service at Friendship Community Church at 2:00 pm. The Family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Summers Landing Retirement Center, Hope Hospice Care, Dr. Doug Alford, and caregivers Barbara Marshall and Cathie Barron for their care and support of Mrs. Gorman.
