With grateful hearts we remember and celebrate the life of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Pat Mayes. Born on April 24,1940, Pat lived a life of love, kindness, service, and devotion to her family, her church, and her community. Her life was a beautiful reflection of her faith and her desire to make a difference in the lives of those around her. She passed away on October 8, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories and a family who will forever hold her close in their hearts.
Her faith was an important part of her life, and Fulton Springs Methodist Church was a special place where she shared her gifts and served others. Over the years, she faithfully served as Nurture Chairperson, Sunday School teacher, small group leader, choir member, and youth leader. Through these ministries, she nurtured faith, encouraged fellowship, and helped build a church family rooted in love. Her willingness to serve was a testament to her belief that faith is best expressed through loving others.
Her greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind a loving family whose lives have been shaped by her love. She is survived by her daughters Janelle Jennings (Terry) and Susan Dial (Jack). She was a proud grandmother to Jon Jennings (Star), Leah Gann (Chris), Allie Mills (Casey), Andrew Ellis (Kyrston), Liz Dial, Ben Jennings (Lakin), and Annie Dial (Trey Phillips). Her love for her grandchildren was a special blessing, and she delighted in watching them grow, build families of their own, and create their own memories.
Her legacy continues through her beloved great-grandchildren: Sunny Jennings, Ezra Jennings, Briggs Gann, Mia Ellis, Jennings Gann, Amelia Jean Mills, Nora Belle Mills, Dominic Ellis, and Damien Ellis, who is on the way. Each one is a precious part of the family she loved so dearly.
She is predeceased by her parents, Bess and Edgar Quick, husband Hershel Huguley, husband Charlie Mayes, and special friend, Buddy Carpenter. She is also predeceased by her precious daughter, Amy Ellis (Steve).
Pat’s legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the church she served, and the children she taught. Those who knew and loved her will remember her not only for what she did, but for the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in her memory to Fulton Springs Methodist Church, 1812 Stouts Road, Fultondale, Al 35068
