

Phillip proudly served our Nation on the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict and he was a member of the Vietnam Veteran Chapter. He received a two year business degree from Jefferson State Community College. He retired from Rust Engineering after 27 years of service and after his retirement he was employed by Social Security and various other security positions until retiring from full time work.
Phillip was a Volunteer Fireman with Mt. Olive Fire and Rescue for ten years and served on the Mt. Olive Fire and Rescue Board for five years. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church Mt. Olive and he volunteered to assist in the valet parking and greeting visitors and guest. He was a recipient of North Jefferson Quilter's Guild - Quit of Valor for his service to our country.
Phillip was a devoted and loving husband and father and he was so proud of his family. He loved spending time with his family and friends and he was an avid Alabama Football fan.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, James Dewitt Bagwell and Era Viola Sledge Bagwell. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Lynn Bagwell; three children, Bobby Carol Sellew of Gardendale, Chris Bagwell and his wife, Shannon Bagwell of Mt. Olive and Amanda Sharitt and her husband, Shawn Sharitt of Kimberly; four grandchildren, Rebecca, Emily, Caleb, and Evan; special cousin, Joan Hall and her husband Richard, and many friends.
Celebration of Life Services for Phillip will be held at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 with a time of visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM; funeral service at 11:00 AM, followed by his burial in the Honor Garden at Oakwood Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
