

Phyllis was predeceased in death by her father James Arley Fike; mother Thelma Juanita Burnett Fike; siblings Herman Fike, Edward Fike, Burnett Fike, and Vaneta Phillips; husband WC Davis Scogin; son Charles Wayne Scogin; daughter Katie Juanita Winfield; daughter-in-law Brenda Gail Scogin; granddaughter Melanie Carisa Scogin.
Phyllis is survived by sisters Mary Lynn Sides and Patricia Garnett; by children: Dennis Neal Scogin (Lois), Betty Lane Johnson, Mancil Scogin (Cynthia), Randolph Scogin; by grandchildren: Dennis Blackerby(Lynette); Larisa Blackerby; Madelaine Gilchrist; Debra Bibb; Alex Scogin(Laura); Lisa Scogin(Luis Leal)
Christopher Michael Phillip Allen, Jamie Scogin, David Tinker(April), Shane Phillips(Tashia), Jason Phillips(Nicole), Patrick Scogin, Corey Scogin(Nateka), Russell Winfield(Beth), Clayton Scogin, Cameron Scogin and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was born and lived in Jasper Alabama. She professed Jesus as Savior at an early age and recommitted her life later on. She graduated from Walker County High School, worked for Seven-Up Bottling Company, and then married WC Davis Scogin on October 15, 1949. Phyllis, while raising 6 children and maintaining her home and family, began working for Realty Brokers, Inc in August of 1962; then in 1965 she worked for Southern Living Magazine; afterward for the Movie Review Board from 1965-1967; she then became a Stenographer for the Birmingham Police Department from 1967 to 1971; during this time she finished her college degree from Samford University in 1970; she was promoted to Police Statistician August 23, 1971; she taught part-time Business Math & Accounting at Alverson-Draughn Business College 1970-1972; she then was promoted to Senior Accountant Birmingham Police Department January 27, 1973; she and her husband bought a farm in the Easley community near Oneonta Alabama raising cattle and hay; she retired as Senior Accountant for the Birmingham Police Department on November 30, 1991. After retirement she worked for the Birmingham Police Credit Union.
In her lifetime she and her husband resided in Birmingham, in the community of Pawnee, and in the community of Easley in Blount County. They attended Pawnee Baptist Church, Pastor Lawrence Normand and Edgewood Baptist Church, Pastor Gary Thrasher and Pastor Earl Harper. In her retirement years, she went on a family white water rafting trip, spent time with her grandchildren, cared for and transported her great grandson Dustin to school, assisted in her youngest son’s glass business, and enjoyed gardening.
Celebration of life services for Phyllis will be held at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, Saturday, July 18, 2020 with a time of visitation to begin at 10:00 AM; celebration of life service at 11:00 AM, followed by her burial at Pawnee Baptist Cemetery, 2370 Hewitt Drive, Birmingham, AL.
