

Porter C. Higginbotham was born on September 1, 1926. He married the love of his life, Edith, on April 1, 1950. They had 3 daughters and through the years came 7 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was a long time member at Westwood Baptist.
Porter loved to learn taken many courses at Jefferson State Community College, UAB, and graduated from Birmingham Business College.
He loved living life. He had so many hobbies: fishing, hunting, bee keeping, photography, and woodwork just to name a few. He loved traveling and sightseeing with friends and family. Simple words " He was a man of social environment." He loved telling jokes and hanging out with his friends at the Gardendale Civic Center.
Porter retired from the Army and Air National Guard after service of 37 years. He retired at the age of 56. He was a proud veteran of World War II and the Berlin Crisis. He was married to "Edie" for 75 years. Porter had a beautiful blessed life with love, church, family, and living his life to the fullest.
Porter was preceded by his parents, Robert Bern and Fannie Mae Higginbotham; his sisters, Ollie Mae Craven and Peggy Greene. His brothers, Clyde and Burnie Lee Higginbotham. Porter leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth in hearts that knew him. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Edith Higginbotham and his devoted daughters, Vicki Carter (Kelly), Terri Leigh Johnson (Curt), and Patti Handley (Jeff). He was also survived by 7 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
He will be truly missed by us all.
