He received an honorable discharge from the United States Army in July of 1963. He retired from Jefferson County after working many years as Assistant Highway Engineer. A visitation for Ray will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 1:00 PM at Moncrief Cemetery, 2055 Moncrief Road, Gardendale, AL 35071.
