Be it known that on this day, March 8, 2019, we stand in honor of old school biker, friend, father, son, husband and “brother” to a select few, Richard Lamar Turner, of Gardendale, Alabama, who, after 69 years of caning it, received his final speeding ticket as he catwalked his prize 1958 Panhead hog past the devil and roared through the pearly gates onto the Big Slab. Richard lived life “one wheel at a time” and, as owner of Buck’s Custom Cycles in Tarrant City, Alabama for many years, was well-known for his unique, artistic design and paint of custom cycles having won best design and paint at World of Wheels in Atlanta, Georgia consecutively for multiple years. He spent the last 10 or 12 years of his life devoted to the care of his elderly parents, Travis Lamar and Pauline Turner, who predeceased him. In addition to his “brothers,” left to fight over his “too many to count” Harley t-shirts and doo-rags are his wife Emily A. Turner of Tarrant, Alabama, son Christopher Lamar Richardson of Brandon, Mississippi, step-daughter Mary Jane Roddam, step-son Jason LeBerte, both of Tarrant, Alabama, eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. Known for his larger than life persona, Richard lived life by his own rules and died as a result of being stubborn, refusing to follow doctors’ orders and raising hell for more than six decades. He enjoyed booze, guns, fast cars and younger women until the day he died and with much pride loyally gave generations of men the gift of his brotherhood. A memorial service honoring the life and legacy of Richard Lamar Turner will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel located at 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, Alabama. All friends, family and “brothers” are invited to accompany Richard on his final ride through the Florida Keys to the shoreline of the Chattahoochie River, where on a clear day the smell of leather fills the air and the V-Twin Throttle of an old ’58 hog can be heard as the soul of a front door biker “rides free,” flogging it through the streets of gold for all of eternity.
