Sylvia Baugher Beasley, age 82, of Mount Olive, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2021, surrounded by her family. She was immediately welcomed into Heaven by her loving Lord and Savior. She was a wonderful wife, mother, Gran and Ditda who was very loved and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her loving, dedicated and adoring husband of 63 years, H. Y.; two daughters, Cindy Bradford Smith (Dennis) and Jenny Bowen (Ben); grandchildren, Laura Martin (Jeff), Grant Bowen (Marisa), Zac Bowen (Becca) and Brad Bowen (Anna); step-grandchildren, Theresa Smith-Levin (Brent), Danielle Smith (Taylor) and greats Bodhi and Beckham Levin; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She is also survived by eight loving and adorable grand pups.
Born Sylvia Katherine Baugher on February 2, 1939, to David and Eva Baugher, she graduated from Tarrant High School. She was a true woman of God and served alongside her husband in a lifetime of dedication to the Lord’s work. Just a few of the areas that she/they served in over her lifetime include; leading Youth Ministry at New Georgia Baptist Church (where her family was founding members), singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, volunteering at Magnolia Ridge nursing home on Sundays for over 15 years, assisting in leading a thriving Sunday School class at Gardendale First Baptist Church - she thoroughly loved her volunteer time helping a group of Hispanic children once a week with their English homework. These are only a few of the many, many areas where she served in her lifetime. She also inspired those around her by reading the Bible through seven times over the course of her life.
One of her favorite pastimes was traveling with her husband to all 50 states in the United States and visiting most of the National Parks. Probably her most cherished time was spent with her husband, children and grandchildren — cooking Sunday dinners and attending EVERY activity where her grandchildren were involved. Sylvia was a constant supporter and encourager in every way.
Her family will receive friends on Saturday, February 27th at 10:00 a.m. at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL. The celebration of life service will be held following the visitation at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Harrison of Gardendale First Baptist Church conducting the service. (Masks are requested to be worn by all in attendance.) Burial will follow at Walker’s Chapel Memorial Gardens, 1200 Ellard Road, Fultondale, AL. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for excellent care by Compassus Hospice Care and by Healing Touch Caregivers — especially Mandy, Tammy and Brenda.
