

William Patrick Armstrong passed peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017. He was born December 28, 1934 in Homerville, Georgia. Patrick lived a full life, bringing love and laughter to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Raised in Central Park here in Birmingham, he attended and graduated from West End High School. He earned many degrees throughout his lifelong love of education, culminating with his Ph.D. in History from the University of Alabama. He began his illustrious teaching career first at Mortimer Jordan High School in Morris, Alabama and beginning in 1965 at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama.
Patrick will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving son, brother, uncle, and father, distinguished professor of history, champion of social consciousness, avid lover of old movies (Casablanca anyone?), proud alumni of the University of Alabama and a faithful follower of Crimson Tide Football.
He was preceded in death by his parents Percy and Mable Armstrong of Central Park, twin brother Larry Armstrong of Jonesboro, GA, and brother, Peter Tolley of Houston, TX. He is survived by son Jeffrey Patrick Armstrong of Fultondale, AL; daughters, Laura Ann Schmidt (Gary) of Homewood, Alabama and Rebecca Elizabeth Tucker of Gardendale, Alabama; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues.
To honor Patrick, a visitation will be held on Saturday, November 4th at 1PM with a memorial service following at 2PM at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel.
