Alfonso “Poncho” Capetillo Zavala, 86, passed away peacefully with his brother, two sisters and family at his side on June 8, 2024, at St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center. He was born on October 30, 1937, in Gregory, Texas, Terre Belle Farm, to Patricio and Apolinaria Capetillo Zavala. He was a proud resident of Georgetown, Texas, living with his brother and sister-in-law, Candelario and Sandy Zavala for over 50 years.
Growing up in Gregory he worked as a farm worker in the cotton fields and migrant worker in Texas, Arizona and California with his family. After coming to Georgetown he went to work as a tile setter helper and grouter for A-1 Tile company, then for many years at Trafton & Son, Inc. Alfonso became one of the hardest and best workers in the business in Central Texas and throughout the state. After retiring from tile setting helper and grouter, he went to work at Sun City Texas, the retirement community in Georgetown, for Maintenance, Inc., where he worked for 13 years and had just retired from there within the last year. He really enjoyed working at the Sun City community and always talked highly of his employer, co-workers and all the friendships he had made with the residents.
No matter the situation, Alfonso always had a smile on his face that was infectious. At his jobs he always gave it all he had. He was a hard working man and very humble. He lived with his nephew Jeremy and always wanted the best in life for him. He served a big part in the lives of his nieces and nephews in Georgetown. He was a devoted Catholic attending Mass every Sunday. He gave his family the greatest gifts of knowing he always believed in them, loved them unconditionally and he always prayed for them.
He is survived by his loving two sisters and one brother, Guadalupe (Alfredo) Garcia and Felipe Rodriguez from Gregory, Texas, and Guadalupe Lucio from Portland, Texas. Also surviving him are many nieces and nephews. Alfonso was preceded in death by his parents, Patricio and Apolinaria Zavala, his brothers, Candelario Zavala-Georgetown, Ramon Rodriguez-Portland, Juan Zavala-Rockport, his sisters Andrea Torres-Rockport, Manuela Hernandez-Gregory and Antonia Zavala-Gregory.
