She moved to Austin, Texas from Giddings, Texas soon after graduating from Giddings High School in 1951; was employed by E. M. Scarbrough & Sons, where she met and married her husband, Harold L. Bloomquist of Austin, formerly of Georgetown, Texas. She later was employed with the Texas Highway Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety where she retired in 1986. The original spelling of her first name on her birth certificate is Angeline, but she decided to change the spelling of her name to Angelene so no one would call her AngeLINE, which caused much frustration to her husband.
They raised their family in Austin, and moved to Georgetown in 1980. The couple and their family were members of Shettles Memorial Methodist Church now called Hyde Park Methodist Church in Austin, for a number of years prior to transferring their membership to St. Johns Methodist Church in Georgetown.
Angelene was the epitome of the Proverbs 31 woman, “an excellent woman whose worth is far above jewels; trustworthy, strong and diligent”. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and a dear friend. She loved deeply and without restraint. Her life was marked by her relationship with Jesus Christ, which began in the Lutheran tradition as a young child. She was a woman of prayer and faith, and she exuded peace and joy. She was an avid reader, painter, and loved dancing and playing dominoes with friends and relatives. She spent long hours painting beautiful scenery like mountains, fields with farm animals, and she especially loved painting churches. She could drive a tractor or wrangle a cow back into its field with the best of them. She was beautiful yet strong, feminine yet feisty, and she knew how to stand her ground when something was worth fighting for, especially when it came to her husband and family. Throughout her life, family, friends and especially children were drawn to her gentle demeanor and quiet wisdom, with some of her Sunday School students becoming lifelong devotees. In her later years, she returned to the comfort and familiarity of the Lutheran faith, joining Faith Lutheran Church of Georgetown. Although Angelene will be greatly missed here on earth, Heaven is rejoicing over her arrival to her eternal home.
Angelene was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Harold; her oldest grandson Seth Bloomquist of Leander, Texas; sister Sadie Wall of Round Rock, Texas; and parents Walter and Ella Mitschke of Giddings.
