After graduation, A.W. worked at several car dealerships and auto supply stores in Temple (Joe L. Ward Co.), Taylor (Cross Allen Co.), and Georgetown (A.G. Braun Chevrolet). After the war, they lived with Blanche’s parents on a farm near Round Rock until buying their first home on Elm Street in Georgetown, moving later to Church Street, near the old jail, then on to the suburbs. Blanche and he were married for 63 years before her passing on May 12, 2006. Spending most of his life in the automotive field, A.W. worked as a service/ parts manager for several car dealerships, the longest tenure being the Ford “houses” of W.G. Lord, Bud Fowler, and Bennie Draeger in sequence. In 1966, A.W. purchased an ongoing auto supply from his friend, W.O. Fletcher, thereafter in business as Hoyt’s Auto Parts, and remained there as owner (and later manager for his son) for almost 40 years. A.W., active in his community over the years, served on various boards at First United Methodist Church. He served on the Georgetown City Council for eight years from 1959 to 1967. He was a member of the American Legion Post #174 for 62 years. A.W.’s interests included fishing (especially with “Salty” Lind), real estate, used cars, and buying/selling various other items. A.W. is survived by his son John David Hoyt and wife Susan of Georgetown; granddaughter, Ashley Paige Hoyt of Houston; and grandson, Davin Michael Hoyt of Houston. The family would like to express their appreciation to his caregivers Ann McNabb and Pam McMaster.
