Bobbie Jean Horton, originally Bobbie Jean Wolfolk, was born on February 20, 1943, in Warm Springs, Georgia. She passed away on May 26, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, with her caring daughter and granddaughter by her side. Bobbie was the second of twins born to George and Mattie Pearl Wolfolk, coming after her twin brother, Robert Wolfolk.
In the late 1940s, numerous Wolfolk family members, including uncles, aunts, and cousins, relocated from southwest Georgia to various Midwest cities like Cleveland, Detroit, and Chicago. Even though George Wolfolk Jr. passed away before his siblings, Bobbie and her brothers Willie and Robert, along with sister Annie, undertook a significant journey from Warm Springs, Georgia, to the West Side of Chicago, Illinois, accompanied by their grandmother, Pearl Sanders. After settling in Chicago, George and Mattie Pearl's family grew with the births of Louise, Thelma, and Carl over time.
Bobbie went to Emerson Elementary School, McKinley Upper Grade Center, and Crane Technical High School. She was recognized as the "Most Dependable Student" by her classmates. Notably, she displayed her athletic abilities with her twin brother Robert by winning 100-yard dashes at a summer camp in Wisconsin.
While employed at Woolworths with her first cousin Magdalene Copeland, Bobbie crossed paths with Raymond Horton, who served as a supervisor at the company. They tied the knot in April 1966 and welcomed two children: Angela Wesby (formerly Horton) in 1968 and Michael J. Horton in 1972. Bobbie worked in the pharmaceutical industry for 25 years where she was awarded for her work and was a line Supervisor at Lyphomed later renamed Fujisawa and then again renamed APP ( American Pharmaceutical Partners) in Melrose Park, Illinois.
Bobbie had dedicated her life to God in her youth. However, in 1994, she chose to reaffirm her commitment by receiving baptism at the New Heights Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Markham, Illinois. During her time there, she actively participated in the choir, served as a Deaconess, and led the food and fellowship committee.
In 1984, Bobbie became a grandmother for the first time with the arrival of Dawn Horton. Later, Ariel Medard (formerly Wesby) was born in July 1992. In June 1998, the family celebrated the birth of twin grandsons Michael and Myles, and in November 2007, the youngest granddaughter, Jayda, was born.
In 2009, Bobbie retired from work due to illness and moved from Bellwood, Illinois to Leander, Texas, to live with her daughter Angela's family. The following year, she returned to Chicago and led a vibrant and independent life. Bobbie cherished moments with lifelong friends such as Mable Beal, The Mitchell family, her first cousin Magdalene Whaley, and her brother Robert and his wife Diane. She also enjoyed her time at the local senior center and attended the Broadview Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where she made new friends like Sis. Wilma.
In the fall of 2019, Bobbie returned to Texas for her yearly holiday trip. However, due to the pandemic, she made the choice to make Texas her permanent home alongside her daughter and granddaughter. Bobbie dedicated her time to volunteering at the Food Bank for the Round Rock Seventh-Day Adventist Church and found solace in attending church on the Sabbath to bond with others and with God. Bobbie treasured the festive celebrations at her family's residence in Texas, as well as at Andrea Francis' and Julissa Benn's homes.
Bobbie had a deep affection for people and adored her family. Throughout her life, Bobbie embodied strength, faith, and compassion. Her legacy lives on through her children, Angela and Michael, her twin brother Robert, sisters Peninah (Annie), Bhatzion (Louise), and Yidedah (Thelma), and her beloved grandchildren: Dawn, Ariel, Michael, Myles, and Jayda.
