

Calvin Hardy Whiteley, age 89, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on July 5, 2026. Calvin was born in Georgetown, Texas on July 22, 1936, to Hardy William Whiteley and Ruby Lee Ahlberg Whiteley. Calvin grew up in Georgetown and attended Georgetown High School where he participated in chorus, band and Future Farmers of America (FFA). Calvin graduated high school in 1955 and went on to attend Southwestern University from 1955-1960. During college, he was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. He also volunteered for the US Army Reserves starting in 1957. He graduated Southwestern with a bachelor’s degree in business administration (BBA) in 1960.
While at Southwestern, Calvin met and married Mary Ruth Fisher in June of 1960. Calvin and Mary had three sons: Harry Calvin Whiteley born in 1961, Donald Lee Whiteley born in 1963 and Billy Ray Whiteley born in 1967.
After college, Calvin worked at several banks including the Citizens State Bank in Georgetown, the First National Bank of Whitewright (Texas) and banks in Oklahoma. Calvin continued to participate in the Army Reserves for several years and received his 2nd
Lieutenant officer commission in 1964. Calvin switched to active duty in 1975 and was stationed in various locations including Fort Polk (LA), Fort Meade (MD), Fort Hood (TX) and Fort Sam Houston (TX). During his army service, Calvin specialized in Health Services and Intelligence. Calvin received numerous meritorious medals and commendations while in the US Army and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1991.
Calvin had many hobbies during his life with most being of a mechanical nature. He enjoyed metal working, welding, repairing old cars and engines, and airplanes (including getting his pilot’s license). Calvin also enjoyed watching sports on TV and watching his grandkids play sports. He also spent many hours investigating the Whiteley family genealogy (the original Whiteley family 1860s homestead was located just west of Georgetown down Hwy 29).
Calvin met and married Esthela Flores Merrill in 2000 in San Antonio, Texas. They were married for 26 years until his death.
Preceding Calvin in death were his mother Ruby Lee Whiteley Wininger, step-father J.D. Wininger, father Hardy W. Whiteley, sister Barbara S. Whiteley McLaughlin, and grandson Joshua Whiteley.
Calvin is survived by his wife Esthela Merrill Whiteley; sister Janice Faubion; his son Harry Calvin Whiteley and wife Jayleen (of Lockhart TX); son Donald Lee Whiteley and wife Susan (of Abilene TX); and son Billy Ray Whiteley and wife Shannon (of Carrollton TX). Calvin also leaves behind 10 grandchildren (Chris , Cara, Candace, Jordan, Reagan, Justin, Krista, Jeff, Jared, and Shawn) and 23 great-grandchildren.
Calvin has requested no formal funeral service. A graveside service, with full military honors, will be held on July 18, 2026, at the Georgetown IOOF cemetery following a visitation at the Gabriels funeral home in Georgetown, Texas. As an alternative to flowers, the family suggests making contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project (Wounded Warrior Project - Donate).
