Elizabeth Grey Breen

Elizabeth Grey Breen, lovingly known by family and friends as “Betty,” 93, of Georgetown, passed away on Friday, October 1, 2010. Betty’s family will hold a private memorial service at a later date in Houston. Betty was born July 7, 1917, in Downers Grove, Illinois, to the late Ira Milton and Grace Brown Grey. She spent many years in the Illinois and Wisconsin area. She met and married John W. Breen in 1938 in Wisconsin. They moved from the Midwest to Houston in 1961 when John went to work for Bud Adams with the Houston Oilers, where he stayed and moved up in the organization until he retired from the Oilers in 1973. He then became a popular radio co-host with Jerry Trupiano of KTRH Sports network for nine years. Betty was a huge support to John in all his endeavors. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years in 1984, and her daughter, Anne Breen in 1997. During her time in Houston, Betty was a member of Windwood Presbyterian Church. She was known for her great sense of humor and her appreciation of puns. Betty is survived by her children, John W. Breen, Jr., and his wife, Judy, of Georgetown and Andrew J. Breen, of Pampa, Texas; her grandchildren, Rebecca Breen, of Austin, and Andrew G. Breen and his wife Audrey, of Charlottesville, Virginia; and one great-grandson, Henry David Breen, of Charlottesville; along with a host of friends. Memorial donations in Betty’s name should be sent to The Special Olympics, The Red Cross, or Park Place Care Center in Georgetown.
