

Glafira Gomez, lovingly known as "Gladys", 60 of Georgetown, passed away at her home on Thursday, January 30, 2014. Gladys was born January 13, 1954 in Aguascalientes, Mexico to the late Rafael and Anna Maria Avila Jimenez. Growing up Gladys was taught that family was most important and she continued that throughout her life and passed that along to her sons. Gladys married the love of her life on February 3, 1974 in Mexico, they moved to Austin, Texas in 2008 and to Georgetown in 2010. Her faith in God and the Catholic Church was evident in how she lived her life. Gladys was faithful about praying the Rosary. Spending time cultivating her rose bushes was a passion for Gladys along with keeping her home clean and maintained for her family. Gladys worked for Target since 2008, she greatly enjoyed her job, and she said it brought her peace. Gladys loved spending time with her grandkids and all her family. Her sons all knew they were her favorite; she gave them all their own nicknames. Gladys has left a legacy for her family to follow of strength, loving, faithful, and courage; she will be greatly missed. Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, Rafael and Anna Maria; her brother, David Avila and her sister, Irma Avila. Gladys leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband of 40 years, Jose Manuel Gomez Perez; her sons, Orlando Gomez "Mi Landito Chulo" and his wife Lolys, Edgar Gomez "Mi Grandote Chulo" and his wife Carolina, Isaac Gomez "Mi Guerito Chulo", and Omar Gomez "Mi Prietito Chulo" and his fiancé Yanet DeLuna; her 8 siblings, Jaime Avila Jimenez, Irabel Avila, Ramon Avila, Felimon Avila, Abdon "Goni" Avila, Maria Avila, Ernestina "Tina" Avila, Ofelia "Peya" Avila; her 4 grandchildren, Ed Kenrick Gomez, Jared Kobey Gomez, Jhaylene Janis Gomez, William Isaiah Gomez; along with numerous other loving family and friends.
