Jan Eli Jensen, known to many as "Junior," died peacefully at his home on September 23, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. He was 83. Born on April 18, 1941 in Denmark, Jan moved to the United States in 1951 with his father, Kai, beginning a new life in a new country. Jan lived in Maine, Massachusetts, Florida, North Carolina, California, Washington, Mississippi and Texas.
Jan started his career as a preacher. Later, he had an over 25-year career in human resources; Jan worked at several companies, culminating as Vice President of HR at Tandem Computers. After retiring, he devoted himself to woodworking—a craft he was passionate about. Jan created cabinets, furniture, and many other pieces, and he taught woodturning classes at Woodcraft for many years, sharing his skills and love for the trade. Beyond his woodworking, Jan enjoyed music, painting, birdwatching, and gardening.
Jan was preceded in death by his parents, Kai and Elinor (Petersen) Jensen; his first wife, Rita (Willoughby) Jensen; his second wife, Ann (McDaniel) Jensen; and his grandson, Michael. He is survived by his children: Dawn, Mark, and Chris; daughters-in-law: Elaine and Liz; grandchildren: Jessica, Corey, Heather, Courtney, Cameron, and Megan; and a great-granddaughter, baby A.
In keeping with Jan’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral or memorial service. The family invites those who knew him to remember him in their own way. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association in Jan’s memory.
