There will be a private burial at IOOF Cemetery at a later date. John was born July 14, 1949 in Dallas, Texas to the late I. B. and Lillie Mae Pickett Hearon. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Wesley Hearon. John has worked as a long haul truck driver for over 26 years, travelling through all forty-eight contiguous states and Alaska. For the past 10 years, John has specialized as a “Bull Hauler”. John was a CB radio enthusiast, his voice over the air ways will be missed, and those who knew and talked with the “Old Man” will cherish their air time with him. John also enjoyed tinkering with the repair of just about anything; he was very mechanically inclined. He spent a lot of his life in the Dallas and Grand Prairie areas. It was in Grand Prairie in 1998 that he met the love of his life, Mary Gatlin. They were neighbors and were introduced over the back fence, she says he used the excuse of needing 3-in-1 oil to come visit her again. From there their feelings grew and they were married on August 7, 1999 in Grand Prairie, Texas. It was his smiling words that stated, “our relationship just proves that love does come knocking at your door!” John and Mary have lived in the Georgetown area for the last five years. John’s second passion was fishing, both saltwater and fresh water, he always had a story and tall tales of his fish catches. John leaves behind to cherish to his memory his loving wife of 12 years, Mary Gatlin Hearon; his daughter, Cheryl Hearon; his grandchildren, Tayler Ciara Sullins, Baylie Nicole Sullins, Mandi Rene Sullins, Jacob Tyson Soules; his mother-in-law, Mildred Gatlin Igo and her husband Louis; his sister-in-law, Jan Gatlin Thompson and her husband Don, along with a host of other loving family members and friends. Whether it was over the airways or out on the water fishing or his buddies on the roads, John was a friend to all, he will be truly missed. John never met a stranger and was a man of integrity, strength, and courage. Memorial donations in John’s name should be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of choice.
