John was born in Jefferson, TX, to Susie Youngblood and Buck Moore. He had fond memories of growing up in Jefferson, and he never grew tired of telling stories about what life was like there in the mid-twentieth century.
John attended Texas A&M University, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering ('65), and later received his MBA from the University of Houston. He went on to a dedicated career as an engineer and manager at Lockheed, where he worked for more than 30 years. Beyond his career, John spent his spare time working on cars, reading about cars, and watching car races, both in person and on TV. He also enjoyed reading books of all kinds, but the most recent copy of the Texas Almanac was never more than an arm’s length away. Above all, John cherished his family. He loved his grandchildren dearly and rarely missed an opportunity to attend their games, performances, and special events, taking great pride in each of their accomplishments.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ouida Jane Moore; children Clinton Eric Moore (Mary Quin) and Shannon Alyssa Moore Jones (Gib Jones), and 4 grandchildren: Skyler Jones, Stone Jones, Truett Moore and Cormac Moore. He is preceded in death by his parents and sibling, Alton Ray Moore.
In place of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Association of Former Students Texas A&M Make a Gift. (https://www.aggienetwork.com/give/onlinegiving/)
