

Joseph J. Portugal, 78, of Georgetown, passed away April 10, 2008. A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Corn Hill. Joseph was born January 28, 1930 to Jose Jesus and Dolores (Medina) Portugal in Laredo, Texas. He served his country as a member of the U. S. Navy from 1949 to 1952. He served aboard the USS Harveson. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Joe attended and graduated from the University of Houston, Houston, Texas. He went to work for TRW, working in both Houston and Tennessee until retiring after 42 years of faithful service. Joseph married Carol Jean Lounsbury in December of 1973. The family moved from Knoxville, Tn. to Georgetown two and one-half years ago. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Corn Hill. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Luz Maria Ramirez. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Carol of Georgetown, son, Mark of Luling, La., stepson Clif Lounsbury and wife Louella Lounsbury of San Antonio, stepdaughter, Jenna Lounsbury of Houston, grandson, Joshua Portugal of Luling, La., brother, D.M. “Port” and wife Carol of Houston, sisters, Aurora Rodriguez of San Antonio, and Lely and husband Santiago “Poncho” Garza of Laredo, and many nieces and nephews. God saw you were getting tired And a cure was not to be, So He put his arms around you And whispered “Come with Me”. With tearful eyes we watched you suffer And we saw you fade away. Although we love you dearly, We cannot make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, Hard working hands to rest God broke our hearts to prove, He only takes the best. In lieu of flowers, for those who desire, memorial contributions may be directed to: The building fund of Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Corn Hill or Lighthouse Hospice.
