

Joseph E. Schraer of Georgetown died peacefully on January 22, 2018 surrounded by family. He was born in Shiner, Texas to Ben and Josephine (Klos) Schraer on February 18, 1933. He was eleven when his family moved to Moulton, Texas, where he graduated from Moulton High School. He served two years in the United States Army, serving in Ft. Bliss, Texas and Germany. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1960.After working in Houston, Texas as a Professional Engineer for forty years, he retired to Georgetown, Texas. He was a member of the San Gabriel Council 6453 Knights of Columbus and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Society of Civil Engineers.He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alvin Schraer; sisters Benita Schraer, Etta Schraer, Dorothy Walters and Frances Pilat.He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet; brother, Clarence Schraer of Billings, Montana; brother-in-law Charlie Pilat in Moulton, Texas; and numerous nephews, nieces, step-children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.A Visitation with the family will be held at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, Georgetown, Texas on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 6pm until 8pm, with the rosary beginning at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Helen Catholic Church, Georgetown, Texas on Monday, January 29, 2018 at 10am. The burial will follow at IOOF cemetery in Georgetown, Texas.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Helen Catholic Church in Georgetown, Texas, or a charity of your choice.
