Kay devoted her life to her family and to caring for others. She was the beloved wife of Max Smith for 68 wonderful years, a loving mother to Bill, Becky, and Bob, and a proud grandma to Nicki and Cody and kept them while they were babies.
Kay's greatest joy was family, especially babies. She never met a baby that didn't bring a smile to her face or one see didn't want to hold. Over the years, she lovingly cared for countless children, blessed many families with her kindness and nurturing spirit. Among those who held a special place in her heart were Lyndsey and Laura.
Kay and Max moved from Kansas to Texas in 1977 where they had many new adventures and became die hard Dallas Cowboy and Texas Aggies fans. While living in Kansas Kay kept a sweet boy named Michael while his RN mom took care of people - he was fortunate enough to stay with Kay until he started kindergarten and was one of the family.
Kay loved her family with all her heart and was up for anything that they were doing. This included many trips over the years to Disney with the whole family, buying RV's for everyone so they could all be together at the Waco Marina and never missing a co-ed softball game.
Max and Kay also loved to travel - they took several cruises including going to Alaska, Jamaica and even brought Nicki and Andrew along on one of them. They had a wonderful time, and she never met a stranger, while Max never left an ice cream machine vacant for long. When Max started hitting the road for softball games, Kay was right there with him, always his biggest fan in the crowd - but she also didn't mind telling him she thought it was time for him to slow down, hang up his glove and put his cleats away.
It may surprise you to know that she was also a little bit of a gambler - she did not turn down her last opportunity to go to Winstar with Donna one last time, she usually came back with more than she left with. She didn't bet big but she always remained steady - the same way she approached life.
Kay was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Max Smith, and her cherished grandson, Cody.
She is survived by her children, Bill, Becky, and Bob; her granddaughter, Nicki; and numerous extended family members, lifelong friends, and the many children and families whose lives she enriched through her love and care.
Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the children she nurtured, and the countless memories she helped create. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of those who knew her. True to her humble nature, Kay never wanted a big fuss made over her. Her wish was for a simple graveside gathering surrounded by those she loved most. While her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her family finds peace in knowing they are honoring her life in the manner she requested: quietly, lovingly, and together.
