

Lt. Col. Rodolfo “Rudy” G. Dominguez (US Army, Ret.), 72, of Florence, Texas passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2009 from complications resulting from long-term heart disease and kidney failure. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH 35, Georgetown, Texas from 7:00PM to 9:00PM with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM Monday at Santa Rosa Catholic Church of Andice, 6400 FM 970, Andice, Texas 76527. Interment will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, Texas. Rudy was born March 17, 1937 in Hondo, Texas to Marcial and Julianna Gonzales Dominguez and grew up in Sundown, Texas. He graduated from Sundown High School in 1956. Rudy attended Texas Tech University where he received his Bachelor’s degree and went on to receive his Master’s of Arts degree from Webster College. He also graduated from the US Army Command and General Staff College. Rudy married Dorothy Fiske in May, 1962 in Hertford, NC. Rudy served his country for over twenty-one years in the United States Army which included eighteen combat campaigns in the Republic of Viet Nam. He also served in Germany and in the United States. Rudy retired from the Army in 1981 and returned to Sundown, Texas with his wife and children. Later, he worked for several years as an Adult Probation Officer, Safety Officer for South Plains Community Action, as Municipal Judge of Sundown, Texas and as a member of the Board of Directors of the South Plains Association of Governments. He was an avid Red Raider fan and enjoyed gardening, camping and woodworking and was usually accompanied by his beloved dog, Pumpkin. Rudy is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jim Dominguez and Marcial Dominguez, Jr. and sister, Antonia Torres. Rudy leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 47 years, Dorothy Dominguez; children, Richard Dominguez and wife Deborah of Kaufman, TX and Julia Dominguez McCartney and husband Mark of Jarrell, TX; sisters, Virginia Dominguez and Juanita Dominguez both of Sundown, TX, Mary McGinnis and husband Harold of Sundown, TX and Helen Garcia and husband Mike of Levelland, TX; four grandchildren, William Dominguez, Katherine Canady, Samuel Dominguez and Mark Dominguez; along with numerous other loving family members and friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to the Texas Tech ROTC program in Rudy’s name, P.O. Box 45003, Lubbock, Texas 79409.
