Mary grew up in Round Rock, Texas with her 10 siblings.
In 1964, Mary met Angelo Montemayor at a Round Rock church festival. Mary and Angelo fell in love and eloped on Christmas Eve of 1965. They had their first daughter, Cecelia in 1966, followed by Gloria in 1973.
Mary was an active member of Saint Helen Catholic Church where she served as a Guadalupana and Gift Bearer. When she was not volunteering at the church, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, decorating her home, party planning and going to garage sales. She always made sure her children and everyone included were able to make beautiful memories. Every year she planted iris and tulip bulbs that would bloom just in time for Easter. She was known for her festive decorating skills. During Christmas, she would create a Winter Wonderland below her Christmas tree. Although there were decorations that included Santa, Mary would make sure to hand out goodie bags that said, “Happy Birthday, Jesus!” to remind everyone to focus on what Christmas was really about.
Mary worked as a childcare provider for many neighborhood children. Mama Mary provided a safe place for children to play while their parents were working. Many children whom she cared for would stop by to say hello and bring their own children to see her.
She also worked as the kitchen manager for the Liberty Hill Elementary School where she quickly became the head cook. She was often seen carrying armfuls of spices from her own home to add a little love to the school’s recipes. She was talented in the kitchen and showed love through her cooking. Mary loved sharing her homemade meals with her husband and daughters’ coworkers and friends.
Mary enjoyed spending time with her family & friends. She was the BEST wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mary is survived by her husband, Angelo Montemayor, her daughters Cecelia Ledesma (married to Luis Ledesma), Gloria Ercanbrack (married to Bobby Ercanbrack), four grandchildren (Celia, Amanda, Austin & Divine) and six great-grandchildren (Gavino, Ryan, Luis, Chamyle, Aidan & Austin Jr), numerous siblings and in-laws.
Mary is preceded in death by Manuel Gonzales (father), Guadalupe Gonzales (mother), Manuel Gonzales, Jr (brother), John Gonzales (brother), and Tony Gonzales (brother).
