

Mary Joann Parent, "momma jo" passed away on September 29th 2017 surrounded by her loving daughters. Born on February 18, 1935 to Blanche and Joseph Young, she graduated from Tangier High School in Tangier, Indiana where she met her husband, Perley E. Parent. After moving to Texas, she began a career in the food service industry. After retiring from McNeil Consumer Products in the early 90s, she volunteered at St. David's Georgetown Hospital in the ER as a “Pink Lady", where she was affectionately labeled "momma jo" . Joann also enjoyed cooking all of her family’s favorites, baking and decorating cakes and making Christmas candies for friends, family and neighbors. In her free time, she enjoyed playing many different games and was known to “skip” herself during a game of Phase 10. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She was a loyal member of the Harvest Baptist Church in Georgetown, Texas where she was recognized as a beautiful whistler. Joann is preceded in death by her loving husband, Perley Parent, grandson, Robert Griffith Jr., son-in-law, Tim Walker, sister Margie, brothers, Bob and Dick, and her cherished dachshund Tiger. She is survived by her daughters: Carol Walker of Denison, TX, Patty and husband, Gene Thompson of Sherman, TX, Vickie and husband Sonny Shockley of Port Townsend, Washington, and Janice Ward of Georgetown, TX, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Guardian Hospice in Denison, Texas.Funeral services will be held, 11AM, Thursday, October 5, 2017, at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel and Crematory with Chaplain Darrell Hudson officiating. Burial services are to follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Georgetown.Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 4, from 6 to 8PM at the funeral home.
