It was at CYO dance in Monterey that Mary met the man she would call her husband, James Raphael Ziegler, he told everyone he had met a "red headed fox". When he was sent off to battle in WWII and Mary was committed to waiting for him, they wrote letters throughout his service time. When James returned home they were married on November 28, 1945 at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Monterey, Indiana. Together they started their family in several towns in northern Indiana. In 1965 James and Mary moved the family to Texas. Having 15 children, Mary stayed busy with cooking and teaching and nourishing each of the children in their own way. Mary told her family for many years that her "work was her prayer". James and Mary instilled in each their children to follow their Catholic faith; they were devoted members of both Holy Trinity Catholic Church and St. Helen Catholic Church for many years.
