Mateo Paul Smith, our beloved son, was welcomed into God’s embrace on April 27, 2026, at 1:28 a.m. Mateo, whose name means “gift from God,” was cherished long before his arrival. For twenty-five weeks, he brought purpose, joy, and a deep sense of connection to his family. He reminded us of the beauty of hope, the strength of love, and the power of prayer and community.
He is preceded in death my his Grandfathers; Patricio Linares and Eason Smith.
He is deeply loved and survived by his parents, Theresa and Jason Smith, and treasured by his family, including his brother Eason Clarke-Smith, Grandmothers; Linda Linares and Shirley Smith, as well has his aunts Julie, Anna, Melody, Tracy and Jackie and uncle Mark, as well as numerous cousins. He will forever be held in our hearts.
In his short life, Mateo brought people together in extraordinary ways, inspiring compassion, prayer, and unity among family, friends, and even strangers. His light, though gentle, shone brightly and continues to guide us.
A funeral mass to honor Mateo’s life will be held on the 7th of May at 9:30 a.m. at St. Helen Catholic Church in Georgetown, TX. He will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX on the 12th of May at 1:15 p.m. The family welcomes prayers and reflection for the sanctity of life, love and family.
Mateo’s life reminds us that love is not measured in time, but in depth. He will always be our son, our gift, and our light.
