

Melvin L. “Jerry” Brethower, 93, passed away January 31, 2012 at the Personal Care Home of Sofie Mitchell in Georgetown. A memorial service celebrating Jerry’s life will be held on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 10:00AM at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH 35, Georgetown. Jerry was born February 12, 1919 in Wray, Colo. He moved to Imperial, Neb., after high school and while working in retail met and married his wife, Leta Fern Goddard. Melvin served his country honorably in the United States Army during WWII. Melvin then owned and operated the “Jack and Jill”, retail grocery in Imperial for many years before retiring and moving to Marble Falls. Jerry and Leta purchased a home in Meadow Lakes, where he was a member of the golf club for many years. Golf and dove hunting were his favorite sporting pastimes as well as taking his most loved dog, “Joy” for walks and a swim at Meadow Lakes. Melvin and Leta always enjoyed the many good times spent with neighbors and friends while living in Meadow Lakes. Jerry is preceded in death by his loving wife of over 70 years, Leta Fern Brethower in 2010; his parents, his daughter in 2003, Pamela Dee; two brothers and one sister. Melvin is survived by his son, Rodney Brethower and wife Julie; grandchildren, Mick Brethower, Tammie Brethower, Lane Andrew, Lisa Jensen and Lindsey Andrew; as well as seven great grandchildren.
