

Melvin Ray Morris, age 69, of Taylor, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 13, 2024. He was born in Georgetown, TX to Jessie Leagle Morris Sr. and Iva Ruth (Chambers) Morris. In 1975, he married Anita Gail Yeary, with whom he shared 44 cherished years.
Melvin graduated from Georgetown High School in 1973 before serving in the Army from 1978 to 1982. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, and also served in Washington state and Panama. Following his military service, he continued his life as a "jack of all trades" in construction, always eager to share his skills and teach others along the way. Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, Melvin had a unique talent for making others laugh, no matter the situation.
Melvin was preceded in death by his daughter, Virginia Marie Morris, and his loving wife, Anita Morris. He is survived by his daughters, Raven Leigh Shaw and her spouse Jason Shaw, with grandsons Ethan and Tyler Shaw of Thrall; and Melissa Gail Dorsey and her spouse Michael Dorsey, with granddaughters Mia McNeil and Megan Dorsey of Hutto.
In his free time, Melvin enjoyed numerous hobbies such as fishing, cooking, antiquing, and metal detecting. He also loved sitting peacefully on his porch with his beloved cat, Baby. His warm spirit, dedication to his family, and the joy he brought to those around him will be deeply missed.

A graveside service will be held Friday June 21, 10 am at IOOF cemetery in Georgetown.
